DMAIC | Define Phase
The DMAIC (Define, Measure, Analyse, Improve, Control) model is the core tool of the Six Sigma methodology. All the DMAIC steps are required and are always carried out in the given order. This page covers the Define phase.
The Define phase is the first stage of the DMAIC model. The Define phase serves as the platform of the project. It defines the problem, goals, objectives, targets, project scope, potential resources required, project milestones and timeline.
The information is typically captured in a document known as the Project Charter.
Key Deliverables of the Define Phase
– Define the problem
– Identify the customer
– Identify Critical To Quality (CTQ) characteristics
– Map the process
– Scope the project
– Identify project team, sponsors and champions
– Develop project plan and milestones
